Associate Professor Dr. Vassil Chervenkoff PhD- Vascular Surgery and Angiology Clinic Chief

Associate Professor Chervenkov graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 1987, after which he began working as a rotational intern in the General Hospital in Silistra, Bulgaria. In1988, he served as a resident in the university hospital Sveta Ekaterina in the vascular surgery clinic.  In 1992, he met the clinical access requirements for the United States Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates ECFMG and received his certification, and one year later he received his U.S. Federal Licensing Examination (FLEX) certification.  

 Dr. Chervenkov received his medical specialization in general surgery in Bulgaria, after which from 07/1995 to 06/1998 he continued his specialization in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery in the Carolinas Medical Center located in Charlotte, NC under the mentorship of Professor Francis Robichek. He received his specialization in vascular surgery in 1999, and in 2001-2001 he earned an additional specialization in the endovascular treatment of peripheral vascular diseases in the same U.S. medical center.  

Dr. Chervenkov returned to Bulgaria and defended his dissertation upon the theme “The surgical treatment of obstruction of the arteries of the lower extremities (below the hip)” and received his PhD.  Dr. Chervenkov has numerous scientific medical publications in national and international medical journals, regularly participates in international medical forums, and is an active member of the European Society of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery.  Before joining our hospital team, he was the chief resident of the vascular surgery clinic of the university hospital Sveta Ekaterina.

Associate Professor Dr. Milena Staneva PhD - Cardiologist and Angiologist

Dr. Staneva graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 1992, and she earned her specialty in internal medicine in 1997 and an additional specialty in cardiology in 2005. Additionally, she is certified to conduct highly specialized medical examinations in ultrasonic vascular diagnostics. Dr. Staneva has numerous scientific publications in national and international medical journals and regularly participates in international medical forums.Between 1993 and 2004, she worked in the cardiology clinic of the university hospital Lozenetz, after which she led the ultrasonic vascular diagnosis sector of the cardiology clinic of the Sveta Ekaterina university hospital until 2006.  Dr. Staneva has been a member of our hospital since we opened and she leads our ultrasonic vascular diagnosis and angiology sector.

In 1997, for the first time in Bulgaria, Dr. Staneva performed transcranial Doppler sonography monitoring of cerebral blood flow during a heart surgery, and in 2003 she introduced ultrasound methodologies for determining the endothelial functionality of peripheral arteries.

In early 2006, Dr. Staneva established and implemented into practice ultrasound study protocols and criteria for heart failure patients prescribed resynchronization therapy to manage treatments and monitor therapeutic effects.

She is an active member of the Bulgarian Association of Ultrasound in Medicine, the Bulgarian Society of Cardiology, the Bulgarian Society of Vascular Surgery and Angiology, and the Bulgarian Association of  Neurosonology and Cerebral Hemodynamics.

 

Dr. Dimitar Markov - Vascular Surgeon

Dr. Markov graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 1992, and he has earned two specializations: in general surgery and in vascular surgery. After his graduation, he began working in the university hospital Sveta Ekaterina, where he gained 14 years of valuable experience, one year in cardiac surgery and the remaining 13 years he worked in vascular surgery department.

Dr. Markov has been a member of our department since we began serving the public. He has participated in numerous national and international scientific conferences, and is currently writing his doctoral thesis entitled "Complications of Thromboendarterectomy (TEA) of the carotid arteries”.

Dr. Ivo Marinov Kavaldjiev - Vascular Surgery Resident

Dr. Kavaldjiev graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 2003.  During his medical university training he interned for 15 weeks in the Vascular Surgery Clinic in Krankenhaus Dresden Friedrichstadt, Germany.  For over two years he was part of the Vascular Surgery Clinic team of the Sveta Ekaterina University Hospital. In autumn 2006, Dr. Kavaldjiev joined our hospital and Associate Prof. Vasil Chervenkov’s team. He is an active participant in national and international Vascular Surgery congresses focused upon implementation of innovative peripheral endovascular techniques. Dr. Kavaldjiev memberships include the Bulgarian National Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery and the Bulgarian National Society of Phlebology.
